AFF RATING COURSE

REQUIREMENTS FOR TAKING THE COURSE

To participate in a USPA AFF rating course you need the following:
-Be at least 18 years old
-current USPA membership
-USPA coach or instructor from another discipline (IAD, S.L or USPA Tandem)
-C-license or higher or foreign equivalent
-Log book with 6 hours of free fall time
-USPA AFF proficiency card signed off in the required places prior to the course.
For the course you need a current (not older then 24 months) SIM and IRM. These can be ordered from USPA. (or SIM can be downloaded free of charge from www.uspa.org)

THE PROFICIENCY CARD

The AFF proficiency card is in the back of the IRM. This card needs to be signed off in the required areas before the course starts! If you are already an instructor you can skip the topics that are marked with a "*". It may take some time to complete the signatures on the card. The course director will sign some topics during the course.

THE WRITTEN TEST

One of the requirements to complete the AFFIRC is taking a written exam and scoring at least 80 %. The questions for this exam and answer sheets are in the back of the IRM. It is an open book test.

THE COURSE

Normally it takes four days (4) to complete (if English is the primary language spoken) The course includes subjects from the Integrated Student Program (ISP), Evaluation Category C Demonstration and Procedures, Briefing on Air-Skills Evaluation Sheet, Category C Practice Jumps, Integrated Student Program (ISP) Category D through H, Other Classroom Requirements (i.e. exits and problem solving), Evaluation Category D Demonstration and Procedures, Category D Practice Jumps, Demonstration of Category D Ground Conduct Pre-Evaluation Briefing, Evaluation of Ground Training Sessions and Jumps, and the end of Course Review

REQUIREMENTS TO PASS THE COURSE:

Score satisfactory for:

Category C ground preparation
Category D ground preparation
Category C evaluation jump main side
Category C evaluation jump reserve side
Category D evaluation jump

 

COACH COURSE

NATURE OF THE COURSE

This course teaches effective methods for training adults to skydive.
Candidates learn to apply those methods to a restricted portion of the USPA Integrated Student Program
the non-method specific portions of the skydiving first jump course
group freefall skills in categories F-H
Course Length
-typically three full days (longer if English is not the primary language).

REQUIREMENTS

Prior to this course, a supervising USPA Instructor observes and evaluates each candidate during the required first jump courses and portions of courses for coaching skills and communication ability.

During the course
A supervising USPA Instructor or Course Director observes conduct training sessions from the ISP syllabus where USPA Coaches are qualified to teach.

freefall portions of Category G and H
The candidate performs at least two satisfactory evaluation jumps, including freefall training.
The candidate is evaluated on his of her debriefing skills.
correctly answer at least 80% of the questions on the open book written examination
