ELITE SKYDIVERS PUSH PERSONAL LIMITS AND THE BOUNDARIES OF PHYSICS TO INSPIRE CHILDREN
Project XRW Achieves World’s Largest Mixed Flock of Wingsuits and Parachutes
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – A team of the world’s best skydivers arrived at Skydive Dubai this week to push the boundaries of human flight and change lives. Raise the Sky, a non-profit organization that connects skydivers to humanitarian and charitable outreach, organizes Project XRW (eXtreme Relative Work) in which high-performance parachute pilots and wingsuit skydivers in freefall interact in the air.
Cutting edge wingsuits slow freefall speeds, and small, aerodynamic parachutes accelerate their pilots’ descent speeds without compromising safety, allowing this stunning achievement. Special GPS units from Project XRW sponsor FlySight aid in data collection that quantifies these developments. They can fly together, have a conversation, and even link up for extended periods. The team’s main goal was to complete the largest ever mixed wingsuit-canopy “flock”. That goal was achieved with an 11-person formation, five parachutes and six wingsuit pilots flying together over the Palm Jumeirah, one of Dubai’s most famous and recognized landmarks.
Skydive Dubai’s generous sponsorship of this Project aims to raise awareness and funds for Raise the Sky’s Flying Dreams program, which supports schools catering to underserved and low-income children. The skydivers visit the schools to talk about teamwork, facing fears, and following one’s dreams, all within the context of human flight. They also bring much-needed resources. “Every child has dreams for the future. For some, even the simplest goals can seem as impossible to attain as what we are doing here this week. Getting an education helps them to make their dreams come true,” said Taya Weiss, a Raise the Sky founder and Project XRW wingsuit pilot.
Project XRW Dubai will support the Pastoral Centre Preschool and Creche in South Africa, a secular non-profit school that provides 300 low-income children with early childhood education and basic nutritional needs. Situated in an impoverished community and working with very few resources, the teachers and staff give children a chance at development that will allow them to eventually graduate from high school and contribute to the upliftment of their families.
Project XRW and our entire team extends a special and heartfelt thank you to His Highness, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum for his visionary support of sport skydiving.

> January 14 What a day what a day! Full sunny weather is back with a slight wind in the afternoon. We go the long awaited FS rounds completed and in Open Class Hyabusa of Belgium ran home with the gold with a clean 4 headway! Congratulations on what i believe is your first gold in a world class event. France Maubeuge took silver leaving the bronze for Arizona Airspeed from the USA followed by 3 russian teams. In FS Female the expected happened and the standing became the final results after that last round, France took the gold, the pick-up USA team took the silver and the Russian Female took the bronze, then spain, Denmark and Canada. Check out the scores for the numbers at the top of this page. Today was also the day to open the Freestyle canopy piloting, Two very exciting rounds to kickstart the return of freestyle in a world calibre event. It has turned out to be possibly the most exciting category in canopy piloting. With still one round left, nothing is final but we really have to tip our hat to Skydive Dubai pilot Jeffro Provenzano for 'killing' the two first rounds.. Check out the video from the PD blog.
In canopy piloting we expect to be finish the final rounds in accuracy and speed tomorrow and finalize with the last freestyle round on Sunday, come and see the spectacle for yourself!
> January 12 Incredible! Dubai does actually have mini weather days, the planning has been so effective that we can actually have "touristy" days were the competitors can go enjoy Dubai, chill on the beach, hit the water parks, go to the souks and take the ride up the Burj Khalifa, visit the Dubai mall and the massive aquarium or go sit on top of a dune in the desert… There is so much to do here, the weather days seam to come as bonuses!
On another note.. since we last reported, we got the first result in canopy piloting, and Greg Windmiller won the gold in Distance! Jonathan Tagle from the PD team climbed up after huge run into second place taking silver and Christian Wagner takes Third place on the podium. Congratulations to all three! The overall standings are Jay Moledzki in First, Jonathan Tagle in second and Skydive Dubai pilot Marat Leiras in third position. One more round to go in accuracy and speed and then, it's going to be time for the crowd pleasing freestyle rounds.

And, another great day at the 2011 Dubai Parachuting Championship. We has some very nice little puffy hazy things appear making the view a little different than the awfully painful redundant superb blue skies. The competition went smoothly today and is going a little faster than expected, the 4 way open only have 2 jumps left. Everyone looks like they are having a great time and for the time being the temporary results are looking good, in 4 way open the 3 lead teams are so close there is no way to know what is going to happen. In 4 way Fem, the temp scores have locked Russia in a solid third place and the two top positions are far from decided between France and the USA.
In CP, the temp scores gives us Jay Moledski, Warren Cleary and Jonathan Tagle in third position, but this is all very temporary, Marat Leiras representing the U.A.E. is right behind ready to climb up the podium. Check this cool video we found online of a competitor's onboard camera, it gives you a good idea of what Skydive Dubai looks like from above during a speed run.
Here is some more Performance Designs video blog.

The Second prize is $10,000 and so on until the tenth position that will receive $3,000.. Skydive Dubai, not only do you get to skydive brilliantly and be rewarded like never before, but your creative side is cherished and rewarded. This dropzone never stops to amaze us.. the down side is that the Skydive Dubai staff and employees cannot participate boohoohoo! Good luck to all and go grab your cameras! The first results are up and are available online!
Canopy Piloting Formation Skydiving Open Formation Skydiving Female Accuracy Landing Today we had an fabulous day of competition, and entertainment, Zoltan was out with all sorts of great aerobatics in the skies over the DZ, the Skydive Dubai hot air balloon was doing its thing, the helicopters and Twin Otter were dropping loads of competitors all day, a constant flow of air entertainment.. or maybe we should call it airtetainment.. ok wait, Skydive Dubai: Pure Airtetainment (TM).
Another incredible day on the DZ. Thank you PD for your great Blog!
> January 8
And it's on, the comp has started, the weather is perfect with temperatures floating between 24 and 27 degrees.
Last night was the opening ceremony, it was a show of music, dance, fire and light. It started with a cool folk dance showing the heritage of Dubai, then night paramotor aerobatics with magnesium showers and Zoltan spinning, flipping in a aircraft covered in LED lights making him glow in the night, on the wings the FAZZA name was visible.
The cirque-du-soleil-esque aero-acrobats were flying on cables, fire dancers with crazy spinning contraptions, more dancers floating up hanging from huge helium filled balloons.. and then a firework show, a massive firework show that seemed like it was never ending, the size of a serious sized city 4th of july show in the states, no joke. What an honor, seriously, the competitors returned to their four-star hotel feeling honored and respected like never before.
> January 6 The DZ was in full effect today, people meeting up, lots of hugs from around the world, everyone looks stoked to be part of this. The swoop pond is a serious focus and pulling lots of attention; when asked the swoopers describe the big blue puddle as "Dubai Style" or "the sweetest even seen" or simply put "the best"... Today is a orientation jumpsday and it's already very exciting. The FS teams, this year, get to jump out of the Twin Otter and land .. right on the palm, that just doesn't suck. Everyone is excited, apparently I hear the organization is much smoother than last year. Helicopters are rotating delivering canopy pilots and accuracy pilots. The lunch area.. it's just funny to call the massive tent a lunch area, it's a feast, huge tables pouring with dozens and dozens intricate dishes, local and international cuisine, waiters serving you drinks and juices.. really quite unbelievable.
This is promising to be quite the event. Congratulations already to all the organizers and people that helped facilitate such a grandiose event and beyond all, thank you to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. and Emirates to make this dream come to reality. We would like to let you know that there are a few blogs popping here and thereon the internet about the 2011 Dubai Parachuting Championship including the PD Blog. You should check them out to get more news and infos.
> January 5 Ok, just got back from a day on the DZ, the place is shaping up and I feel i'm going to run out of superlative words real soon, Skydive Dubai is getting better and better by the hour. Watching the last water trucks topping up the huge swoop pond, bright and blue like an olympic pool, fluffy fresh desert sand has been brought over to fill the run offs.. There are people running all over the place looking hectic but also clearly "on it". Huge bleachers and a big stage has apeared and with a little less than 2 days to go before the official opening ceremony, everyone is wondering what the Dropzone has up it's sleeve this year. Full wrapped public busses and taxis are cruising the city, I just heard the advertising campaign is even in the DXB airport.. Watched two Helicopters land on the swanky new H2 and H3 helipads... oh, and some power paragliders doing some kind of crew formation training flights. My personal favorite, still, is looking at the saucer-sized eyes of the skydivers that arrive for the first time and question "really? this is for skydiving?" The Comp has not even started and already it's awesome. Welcome to everyone!!!
> January 5, 10:44pm I'm sitting here looking at the list of the contenders, in swooping all the heavy hitters are in town, i'm thinking so many of them have the skill and power to take the podium it's going to be a thrilling comp breaking the waters of Skydive Dubai's brand new swoop pond. I'm personally looking forward to the return of Freestyle Swooping on the world scene. In 4-way open well, it's game on to catch the French. Russia, Belgium's Hayabusa and the event-specific newly formed Arizona Airspeed will be all out. 4-way female is to me the most exciting, noo, not only because of the women but because France Aerodyne Cypress that have been in charge of the podiums for the past couple years are facing 2 pick up teams put together for the event by the USA and Russia, both pick ups are made up with people that are faster than the French in their respectful teams but have little if no jumps together as a whole.. so, will individual talent or team synchronicity going to prevail.. lets see. Jan 5th - Arrival Day
Jan 6th and 7th - Orientation jumps
Jan 8th - 15th Competition days
Jan 16th - Closing Ceremony/Award Presentation
> January 4 After taking a close look at the list of skydivers on the online participant list, it becomes really hard to not get seriously excited… >Participant list. The 2011 Parachuting comp is going to be insane! Teams have been created and re-formulated in order to come represent their country. Are we there yet? I want to see some scores!
> January 3 The competitors have started to arrive in Dubai, for the next 13 days, Skydive dubai is going to be hosting some of the biggest names in skydiving, the best swoopers from around the globe will all be on our dropzone with the best 4 way teams in Open and female classes along side the sharpest accuracy pilots,
Some have found their way to the Desert Campus for a few training jumps out of the Skyvan before the real deal. Skydive Dubai is getting ready for the festivities of the opening ceremony and still putting last minute touches on the dropzone. This place is about the become the theater of fierce competition. The total purse for the 2011 Parachuting championship is a mind blowing $320,000, the stakes are high, the glory even higher. Let the games begin!
