Sun, Sand, and Skydiving – Ring in the New Year at Dubai Winter Festival
Winter is coming, and here at Skydive Dubai that just means one thing, perfect conditions for the biggest boogie of the season!
Dubai Winter Festival returns for the third year in a row at Skydive Dubai Desert Campus, from December 26 to January 1. For the freeflyers, the ‘boogie within a boogie’ freefly skills camp is back, and there are some amazing organisers, tubes, big-ways and plenty of surprises too!
For the first four days of the boogie (Dec 26 to 29) there will even be a limited number of slots to avoid long waiting times between jumps, so you don’t have to choose between disciplines or organisers, you can do it all. You must pre-register (form below) to take part.
The long weekend (Dec 30 to Jan 1) will be open to all licenced skydivers with no limit on slot numbers.
All disciplines and levels are catered for, so you can brush up on your belly, sit with style, turn the world up-side-down, track to the future, or zip up your wings. All you need to take part is a USPA A licence or equivalent.
We have world-class organisers in formation skydiving, freefly, and wingsuiting, along with the usual awesome boogie jumps – freefly tubes, hybrids and bigways!
Be sure to sign up for the Dubai Winter Festival newsletter receive all the updates, load organiser profiles, pre-boogie checklist and DWF survival guide, as well as any news and boogie info between now and December 26.
We will be sending out DWF updates through the newsletter on the following dates: November 7, November 21, December 5 and December 19.
Freefly: Rob Jones, Vitor Bennassi, Brad Merrit, and Jim Harris.
Formation Skydiving: Lazlo Csizmadia and Gabor Ritter-Molnar
Wingsuit: Darren Burke
Freefly Skills Camp
The Advanced Freefly Skills Camp is a dedicated 3-day event within the boogie incorporating dynamic, sequential, and angle flying. The aim is to progress skills in smaller groups, selected by ability, eventually combining these teams into larger formations towards the end. The camp runs for the first 3 days of the Winter Festival, December 26 to 28, and costs AED 2,200 payable on arrival.
Included are 18 organised jumps, dedicated load organiser, in-depth briefs and debriefs, and registration for the entire boogie, so you can keep on jumping!
The Advanced Freefly Skills camp is for those who can already demonstrate safe and consistent approaches, fly a slot and break-off safely in any orientation including head-up, head down and angles both back and belly.
After the Sun Goes Down
As always the daily videos will be screened each evening (except on NYE as we party our way into 2017), with food and beverages served every night around the fire at our Bedouin campsite.
On December 31 we’ll ring in the new year with Dubai Winter Festival’s New Year’s Eve Boogie Bash, finishing 2016 in style and beginning 2017 from 12,500 feet!
Manifest will open a little later on January 1 – 10:30am – so we all get a much needed rest after the New Year’s festivities.
Required documentation, rental equipment, landing areas and more are all covered on the Desert Campus Experienced Skydiver Briefing page.
The Desert Campus briefing page also answers frequently asked questions, gives an overview of the waiver process, and a list of dropzone facilities. If you need more information, there’s also a contact form for any queries.
Hop-and-pops and one-on-one coaching will not be available during the boogie, but the AFF school will continue as normal throughout the event.
Pre-registrants can avail of free accommodation on-site for the entire boogie. Bring your own camping gear and immerse yourself in the festival vibe, or reserve a bed in the Bedouin tent and chill out under the moon and stars. Spaces are limited, so get in quick and secure your spot!

The flight school at the Desert Campus will be hosting the next XRW Wingsuit skills camp today to promote safe flying techniques, and to teach the necessary skills for wingsuit pilots to perform technical cross-discipline skydives with an experienced canopy pilot.
To maintain the highest levels of safety, wingsuit pilots must have the pre-requisite skills to fly in a controlled and safe manner in formation with other wingsuiters and canopy pilots.
All pilots will need clearance from the flight school wingsuit coach before the event to participate.
Sign up by contacting wingsuit coach directly while at the dropzone this week, or log on to the Skydive Dubai Desert Campus Experienced Skydiver Briefing page and choose the ‘XRW wingsuit camp’ option. http://www.skydivedubai.ae/experienced/breifings.html
Don’t forget to share your photos from the skills camp on Instagram and Twitter with the hashtag #skydivedubai.
There is always free admission to watch skydivers land from our café’s terrace. Join the fun, chill-out, and experience the vibe at Skydive Dubai Desert Campus.
