The holidays are coming, and if you’re lucky, they may have already arrived!

Both dropzones will be open for much of the holiday season so you can celebrate and leap into the New Year, but we’ll be treating ourselves to a few well-deserved days off of our own too!

We also have plenty going on to keep you entertained this festive season, from Dubai Winter Festival to glider and balloon flights and skydives.

Make your holidays memorable at Skydive Dubai!

Holiday Opening Hours and Dropzone Closures

The Desert Campus will be open it’s normal hours on December 24th, but the Palm location will close early at 3pm.

Both locations will be closed on Sunday, December 25.

The Desert Campus will reopen from December 26 as Dubai Winter Festival; the boogie of the winter season gets underway! Manifest opens at 7.30am.

The Palm will also re-open its doors on December 26 for some merry freefall! Manifest will begin checking-in pre-booked customers from 10am.

Regular dropzone hours will then continue until December 31, when the Palm dropzone will close early again at 4pm.

The Desert Campus will still be open for skydiving on Sunday, January 1, but after the New Year festivities, manifest will open a little later, at 10am.

The Palm will be closed on Sunday January 1, and will return to normal operations from January 2.

Also on January 2, the Desert Campus will close as usual on Monday, giving everyone a much-needed break after Winter Festival. However, the GliderFX team will still be available for all your adrenaline needs!

The Desert Campus will return to normal operations again on January 3.

Regular operation hours:
Desert Campus: Tuesday – Sunday 7:30am to 4pm; weather permitting. Closed Monday.

Dubai Winter Festival

The much anticipated skydiving festival is just a week away!

Tandem skydives and the Accelerated Freefall (AFF) school will run as usual throughout the boogie.

The Winter Festival is also a great place to take friends and family over the holidays. Chill-out on the terrace, join in the activities, take a balloon ride or an acrobatic glider flight, and of course watch plenty of skydivers descending from the skies! See a different side of Dubai, and visit the Desert Campus this holiday season!

Skyhub Gyrocopter Flights

Take a scenic trip and see Dubai like never before.

Gyrocopter flights are available at the Palm dropzone during regular operational hours. Fly above it all over the Burj Al Arab and the Palm, or take a trip up the coast with Skyhub!

Head over to Skyhub’s Facebook page and send a message to make a booking.

Hot-Air Balloon Flights & Skydives

Both skydivers and non-skydivers can take a sunrise balloon flight over the desert dunes this holiday season.

Licenced skydivers can of course experience a unique type of exit, but the skydiving family extends far beyond skydivers themselves.

Friends, family, neighbours, and better-halves are welcome to enjoy a balloon flight with ballooning breakfast, or ascend with the skydiver in your life and watch them exit the basket!

For more information on balloon flights, balloon skydives, requirements and to make a booking, click over to our Hot-Air Balloon Update for all the details.

Aerobatic Glider Flights & Glider Skydives

Less than 200 people in the world have made a skydiving exit from an aerobatic glider, will you be one of them?

Glider jumps for licenced skydivers are available all throughout the festive season from December 27  to January 5, and can even be enjoyed when the Desert Campus dropzone is closed on Jan 2! Celebrate your holiday by freefalling upwards!

Even if you’re not a skydiver (yet), you can still go for an adrenaline-filled aerobatic flight and experience a roller coaster like no other, this one doesn’t even have a track!

Discounts are available for those who book in advance.

For all the details, requirements, and booking information, see our GliderFX Update.

Balloon Rides and Skydives are Back at the Desert Campus!

There’s nothing quite like watching the sun rise over the desert dunes, it’s almost unbeatable. Almost, but not quite. How about watching the sunrise explode across the sky while enjoying a hot-air balloon ride from an altitude of 5,000 feet, before exiting the basket? Yes, we think that’s much better too!

Balloon rides and balloon skydives are back for the winter season, with a number of enjoyable options for you to choose from. For skydivers it’s all about the jump. But non-skydivers can book too.

Join parachutists in the basket and watch as they exit the balloon mid-flight, or after landing enjoy a marvelous ballooning breakfast, before returning to the meeting point.

Flights last approximately one hour from take-off to landing; plenty of time to enjoy the astounding scenery, watch the sunrise, and snap some memorable pictures!

It’s a beautiful experience for old and young no matter which option you choose. Book your hot-air balloon ride today and experience the peace and serenity of the skies.

While licenced skydivers can book a balloon jump and go from serene to extreme!

Option 1: Balloon Ride

The ‘ballooning season’ has begun!

Weather in the UAE is great for ballooning during the winter months.

Winter flights can be stunning, with crystal clear views of desert dunes, mountains on the south-east and the skyline of Dubai on the north-west side. The balloon takes off at first light to maximise your experience with bursts of colour across the sky as the sun comes up. The whole adventure takes about three-and-a-half to four hours.

On arrival at the meeting point at Skydive Dubai Desert Campus, you will be escorted to the launch site. There’s approximately 30 minutes of preparation as the balloon is inflated and prepared for take-off.

Once in the air you’ll be treated to some of the most magnificent views Dubai has to offer. The pilot maintains constant radio communication with the ‘chase vehicle,’ (which will meet you at the landing site) and air traffic control.

Book your flight today! Contact the balloon pilot directly via the form below.

Option 2: Balloon Skydives

While hot-air balloons are an amazing way to relax and take in the views, for licenced skydivers there is nothing quite like jumping out of one!

Exiting from a balloon over the desert is an experience like no other. The serenity of the ascent differs markedly from the noise of an aircraft, while the sunrise views are breath-taking.

As there is no relative wind on exit, you really experience the sensation of falling, similar to that of a BASE jump, before building up vertical speed and deploying your parachute.

Book your flight today! Contact the balloon pilot directly via the form below.

At A Glance

All balloon flights are subject to weather conditions, and for safety we fly only in the calmest of conditions. A flight will be cancelled without hesitation should the weather be unsuitable. The decision to fly is solely at the pilot’s discretion.

Passengers and skydivers are asked to wear flat and comfortable shoes (trekking shoes or sport shoes are best since sometimes we have to walk a little bit on the sand). Shoes with high heels are not allowed on board.

It can often be quite cool early in the morning, and for this reason we highly recommend a few layers of clothes to keep you warm at altitude.

Minimum skydiving requirements for balloon jumps are 200 jumps and a B licence and for safety reasons helmets must be worn and it is prohibited to use ‘selfie’ sticks or to hold cameras by hand.

There is no rental equipment available for balloon jumps, so you must own your own gear, and it’s a good idea to have a mobile phone with you in case of problems after landing or landing off the dropzone.

Whether you jump yourself, watch skydivers exit the basket, or enjoy a ballooning breakfast after your flight, a relaxing ride in a hot-air balloon over the desert is an unmissable opportunity while in Dubai.

Back in March the GliderFX team brought us up and kicked us out over the Palm and the Desert Campus, and now they’re back at Skydive Dubai Desert Campus to do it all again from December 6 to 11 and for the duration of the Dubai Winter Festival!

Whether you are a skydiver or not, everyone can participate. Non-skydivers can go for an aerobatic flight and experienced skydivers can opt to be ejected from the glider.

“It’s the most acrobatic two seater glider ever, ever, ever!” according to GliderFX pilot Guy Westgate. The glider has a 14 metre wingspan, top speed of 175 miles per hour, and reach G-forces of +9 to negative 6!

The aerobatic glider flight (for non-skydivers) is a high-speed thrill ride that barrel rolls, loops and twists across the sky, so even if you’re not a skydiver and above the minimum age of 14 (by Gregorian calendar), you can feel the g-forces on the ultimate roller coaster flight!

Skydiving from a glider is definitely a unique type of exit. You don’t even have to jump, the glider pilot will ‘eject’ you and you’ll actually begin a freefall ascent (yes, freefalling upwards!) of about 100 miles per hour before gravity takes over!

As the freefall ascent slows, you’ll experience a stasis, momentarily suspended in the air, before beginning your freefall descent. During your freefall and under canopy the pilot – an eight-time national aerobatic champion and double world record holder – can even come and ‘play’ by performing fly-bys!

All glider skydives also include the raw video footage from the wing and the chassis, you can of course bring your own helmet-mounted cameras and handi-cams for that first person ‘ejection’ point of view.

For glider skydives a minimum of a B licence and 100 skydives is required. Wingsuit jumps from the glider are only permitted with direct permission from dropzone management or the chief instructor.

Aerobatic Glider flights are AED 850, while glider skydives booked before December 26 are AED 1,500. Last minute bookings are not discounted and will set you back AED 1,750. GliderFX retains the right to refuse customers who do not adhere to requirements.

It’s the ultimate roller coaster ride in the sky, and whether you want to go for a ride, or get propelled from the passenger seat you can get in on the action!

It’s “one of the most amazing skydives I have experienced so far,” said Shavon Simpson after her ‘ejection’ at the Desert Campus.

The gliders are at Skydive Dubai Desert Campus all this week until December 11, and they’ll be back again during Winter Fest. Book your flight or ejection now for this week or pre-book for Dubai Winter Festival.
