Balloon Rides and Skydives are Back at the Desert Campus!

Balloon Rides and Skydives are Back at the Desert Campus!

There’s nothing quite like watching the sun rise over the desert dunes, it’s almost unbeatable. Almost, but not quite. How about watching the sunrise explode across the sky while enjoying a hot-air balloon ride from an altitude of 5,000 feet, before exiting the basket? Yes, we think that’s much better too!

Balloon rides and balloon skydives are back for the winter season, with a number of enjoyable options for you to choose from. For skydivers it’s all about the jump. But non-skydivers can book too.

Join parachutists in the basket and watch as they exit the balloon mid-flight, or after landing enjoy a marvelous ballooning breakfast, before returning to the meeting point.

Flights last approximately one hour from take-off to landing; plenty of time to enjoy the astounding scenery, watch the sunrise, and snap some memorable pictures!

It’s a beautiful experience for old and young no matter which option you choose. Book your hot-air balloon ride today and experience the peace and serenity of the skies.

While licenced skydivers can book a balloon jump and go from serene to extreme!

Option 1: Balloon Ride

The ‘ballooning season’ has begun!

Weather in the UAE is great for ballooning during the winter months.

Winter flights can be stunning, with crystal clear views of desert dunes, mountains on the south-east and the skyline of Dubai on the north-west side. The balloon takes off at first light to maximise your experience with bursts of colour across the sky as the sun comes up. The whole adventure takes about three-and-a-half to four hours.

On arrival at the meeting point at Skydive Dubai Desert Campus, you will be escorted to the launch site. There’s approximately 30 minutes of preparation as the balloon is inflated and prepared for take-off.

Once in the air you’ll be treated to some of the most magnificent views Dubai has to offer. The pilot maintains constant radio communication with the ‘chase vehicle,’ (which will meet you at the landing site) and air traffic control.

Option 2: Balloon Skydives

While hot-air balloons are an amazing way to relax and take in the views, for licenced skydivers there is nothing quite like jumping out of one!

Exiting from a balloon over the desert is an experience like no other. The serenity of the ascent differs markedly from the noise of an aircraft, while the sunrise views are breath-taking.

As there is no relative wind on exit, you really experience the sensation of falling, similar to that of a BASE jump, before building up vertical speed and deploying your parachute.

At A Glance

All balloon flights are subject to weather conditions, and for safety we fly only in the calmest of conditions. A flight will be cancelled without hesitation should the weather be unsuitable. The decision to fly is solely at the pilot’s discretion.

Passengers and skydivers are asked to wear flat and comfortable shoes (trekking shoes or sport shoes are best since sometimes we have to walk a little bit on the sand). Shoes with high heels are not allowed on board.

It can often be quite cool early in the morning, and for this reason we highly recommend a few layers of clothes to keep you warm at altitude.

Minimum skydiving requirements for balloon jumps are 200 jumps and a B licence and for safety reasons helmets must be worn and it is prohibited to use ‘selfie’ sticks or to hold cameras by hand.

There is no rental equipment available for balloon jumps, so you must own your own gear, and it’s a good idea to have a mobile phone with you in case of problems after landing or landing off the dropzone.

Whether you jump yourself, watch skydivers exit the basket, or enjoy a ballooning breakfast after your flight, a relaxing ride in a hot-air balloon over the desert is an unmissable opportunity while in Dubai.
